Recognizing the Signs of Oral Ties in Infants

If your infant is present with any of the following symptoms, they may benefit from an evaluation at Latched Beginnings:

 Latching & Feeding Difficulties:

Struggles with latching, maintaining suction, or staying latched may indicate oral restrictions.

Weight & Growth Concerns:

By reducing tissue trauma, the laser promotes a smoother recovery process.

Digestive Discomfort:

Frequent reflux, gas, or colic symptoms may be linked to swallowing difficulties caused by oral ties.

Breathing Irregularities:

Mouth breathing, noisy breathing, or persistent congestion can indicate airway restrictions related to tongue or lip ties.

Who Should Be Referred?

Recognizing the Signs of Oral Ties for Parents

If the mother is present with any of the following symptoms, they may benefit from an evaluation at Latched Beginnings:

Pain & Nipple Damage:

Breastfeeding pain, nipple cracks, or damage can result from improper latch and suction issues.

Milk Supply Issues:

Difficulty with milk transfer can lead to a decreasing supply or breasts remaining full after feeding.

Need for Supplementation:

Frequent supplementing due to poor milk intake may indicate a feeding issue requiring evaluation.

Feeling Unheard or Unsupported:

Parents struggling to find answers or feeling dismissed by healthcare providers may benefit from specialized care.

A Specialist You Can Trust

Meet Dr. Kacie Culotta

Hi, I’m Dr. Kacie Culotta! As a laser-certified dentist, lactation counselor, and mom of two, I’ve built Latched Beginnings to provide the care I wished I had during my journey with my own children. When my foster son needed a tongue-tie release, I experienced firsthand the challenges of finding the right care. Then, during my breastfeeding journey with my daughter, I faced those struggles again. These experiences inspired me to combine my advanced training with a compassionate, patient-centered approach—so that no parent has to feel lost or unheard when it comes to their baby’s health and feeding journey.
